Should the "pinocchio.jk0.org is down" section above be split to a special subpage User talk:Tepples/pinocchio.jk0.org connectivity that can be used to report future issues? Eighty5cacao 12:17, 31 December 2010 (MST) (last edit 17:14, 2 January 2011 (MST))
WarioWare D.I.Y.
In this edit summary you said "I don't plan to have an article about WWDIY anytime soon," but could "WarioWare D.I.Y." be a redirect to a more general article on user-generated content (also covering Scratch, for example) once such an article exists? Eighty5cacao 22:32, 13 January 2011 (MST)
- Of course, once that happens. I'm not a fan of "user-generated content" because it has a dirty word in it, but I do want to eventually have an article about prosumption to complement what's already in Single-screen multiplayer#Why?. It's just that a lot of times, after having saved a page here, at Wikipedia, or at TV Tropes, I find an error that I missed in preview (or an error in an area that the wiki software doesn't even allow previewing). So I go through the page again, and I find and fix more errors. When only one of these fixes isn't too minor for dispute, that's the fix that ends up described in the edit summary, occasionally with something like "Also speling" [sic] after it. Fixing something else at the same time helps me not flood Recent Changes, and it helps cover my behind for having introduced a syntax error. --Tepples 16:01, 14 January 2011 (MST)
- Could you clarify why you believe so strongly in the GNU Project's position on the word c 0 ntent and, in particular, why it is worth
customizing MediaWiki system messages over this? (Note: I am not disputing the validity of your edits, and especially not the "written entirely by" wording in MediaWiki:Excontentauthor.) What do you intend to accomplish? Eighty5cacao 10:21, 8 February 2011 (MST)
- Deletion summaries have a character length limit, and "text" is shorter than what it replaced, as is "written entirely by". --Tepples 11:21, 8 February 2011 (MST)
- ←
Your changes to the MediaWiki:Ex... messages don't appear to have taken effect in the last few deletions. Is this a caching problem, and/or has one of us misunderstood the meaning of these messages? Eighty5cacao 13:59, 8 February 2011 (MST)
- In the case of the deleted file, Ex messages don't appear to apply to files. In the case of the deleted article, when deleting a page, Ex messages just prefill the deletion summary, and I can rewrite it at will just as one can rewrite the edit summary of an undo. --Tepples 14:26, 8 February 2011 (MST)
Et voila: Prosumption. --Tepples 19:06, 12 February 2011 (MST)
- You've probably figured this out by now, but my original request for a redirect is withdrawn. Eighty5cacao 11:33, 22 February 2011 (MST)
Donation page link
Why is the sidebar link to the donation page called "sitesupport"? Shouldn't it be named something a little more obvious like "Donate"?
Could you clarify whether you are still accepting donations for a PSP and Lumines? (I know the answer is probably no.) Eighty5cacao 11:56, 17 January 2011 (MST)
- Previous versions of MediaWiki had "sitesupport" as a localized string, whose value was "Donation" or the like. It appears to have been removed before MediaWiki 1.16, which is what we're running at the moment. And as for donations: No, I managed to buy those on my own. I'll have to update the donation page to reflect reality as of lately. --Tepples 09:58, 18 January 2011 (MST)
dis am bigger
I notice that in various contexts you have used phrases like "dis am bigger" to refer to the management of disambiguations on wikis, with the implication that "dis" is slang for a certain part of the male anatomy[1].
I can't seem to find any mention of this usage on wikt:dis, so could you remind me what source you used for this meaning, and to what dialect of English does it apply? Eighty5cacao 14:37, 25 January 2011 (MST)
- When I first said "disambiguation" out loud, it reminded me of the lyrics "Say what, say what? / My dick is bigger than yours," which open the song "All in the Family" by Korn (YouTube | YouTube; no relation to Archie Bunker Mutilate from their following album). It might refer to the ponos-waving on disambiguation pages, where people show their self-worth by how many meanings of something they can come up with. I'm guilty myself; a lot of my edits on the tropes wiki have been "not to be confused with" disambiguation entries at the bottom of article leads. --Tepples 18:32, 25 January 2011 (MST)
Your user page or lack thereof
You've got mail at #WarioWare D.I.Y. and uncyc:User talk:Codeine#Weeaboo. Sorry if either sounded a bit rude
If you do not wish to have an user page here, might it be better to have User:Tepples redirect to User talk:Tepples and/or customize your signature to contain a link to User talk:Tepples, for the benefit of newbie wiki users? Eighty5cacao 10:25, 8 February 2011 (MST)
Who's Cuter questions
- Why does the picture of Natalie Portman say "Slapdash" on it? (The font suggests that it's a pun involving Slashdot.) A look at Wikipedia revealed nothing useful.
- Is the program intended to return to the test questions after pressing A twice to get past the results pages? If so, is there any easter egg for doing the test more than once in a program run?
Eighty5cacao 12:10, 20 February 2011 (MST)
- Yes, it's a Slashdot pun. "Natalie Portman naked and petrified" was a meme there around the time I made Who's Cuter, occasionally crossing over with "Hot grits down your pants". But back then, I wasn't comfortable enough with NES programming to make a proper return to title. You could say the ending was programmed in a slapdash manner because I didn't know better, as was my choice of Shell sort over merge sort. --Tepples 12:28, 20 February 2011 (MST)
- Okay, thanks. Incidentally, the appearance of the Number of the Beast in my last Who's Cuter-related edit here is completely coincidental. Eighty5cacao 14:14, 20 February 2011 (MST)
Archive question
Why is User:Tepples/Archive 1 not at User talk:Tepples/Archive 1 (with a redirect if necessary)? The latter title seems to better follow archiving conventions used on Wikipedia and other MediaWiki-based wikis.
P.S. I hastily typed [[User:Tepples/archive1]]
and then [[User:Tepples/Archive1]]
and wondered why I kept getting redlinks. I fail at reading... Eighty5cacao 14:00, 22 February 2011 (MST)
- Brain fart. Will fix. --Tepples 14:18, 22 February 2011 (MST)
DWI website clarification
This is a correction of a factual error I made at User talk:Tepples/Archive 1#pineight.com/dwi page, but obviously that's an archive and I'm not supposed to modify it.
As of this edit, the DWI subdomain of DDRUK is still operational. Eighty5cacao 14:08, 24 February 2011 (MST)
MovePage title
There appears to be a missing/improperly customized MediaWiki system message on Special:MovePage, causing <movepage>
to be displayed in place of the intended title. See [2] (imageshack.us).
Is this similar to the sitesupport issue above? Eighty5cacao 00:41, 1 March 2011 (MST)
- I have no idea why that happens. --Tepples 16:13, 1 March 2011 (MST)
- Here (imageshack.us) is another screenshot showing that the problem still exists now, with a page in userspace. (As shown in the screenshot and
move logs, I did not actually complete the move in question.) Where should I continue my troubleshooting — for example, is there any JavaScript involved in displaying the title in question? Eighty5cacao 17:48, 1 March 2011 (MST)
- I did a bit of Googling and happened upon some other site that had customized this message. I customized it myself, and it should look better now. --Tepples 19:09, 1 March 2011 (MST)
Ping: mos-stsa
Just a note that I started about three new discussion threads on User talk:Eighty5cacao/Manual of Style (songs that sound alike) that seem to have gone unanswered.
I acknowledge that my (n)etiquette in this matter has been suboptimal. I wasn't sure which of these other talk pages might have been better. Eighty5cacao 15:46, 15 March 2011 (MST)
- Sorry it took so long to get to the MOS threads. I've just got some stuff going on in my life. --Tepples 17:50, 15 March 2011 (MST)
- Ok. That brings me to another point I was going to mention soon: I do regularly read the NESdev forums, though I didn't think hard enough to figure out the deal with Midwest Gaming Classic. Eighty5cacao 18:40, 15 March 2011 (MST)
