ASMR[edit]

Are Magibon's videos in any way related to the "autonomous sensory meridian response" (ASMR) fad on YouTube? --Tepples (talk) 18:09, 18 May 2016 (UTC)

Not officially. Magibon was active a while before the term ASMR was in common Internet use. (Know Your Meme articles: Magibon, ASMR; some coverage of both also exists on Wikipedia.) As for unofficially (in the WMG sense), I have no objection, but I'd need to think harder about a more detailed writeup. --Eighty5cacao (talk) 21:19, 18 May 2016 (UTC) (+ 00:08, 19 May 2016 (UTC))
In my last edit summary here, I wrote, "I agree that an average person should be able to get an ASMR from an average Magibon video." To elaborate, "average person" includes only those who are patient (or Aspie) enough to sit through one or more videos without complaining about the absurdity of the concept. --Eighty5cacao (talk) 00:16, 19 May 2016 (UTC)
So perhaps I have a lead for your writeup: "Magibon was ASMR when ASMR wasn't cool." For "average person", you can use "interested, patient viewer". --Tepples (talk) 18:01, 19 May 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. Keep in mind that "misc" means that a given page is not expected to meet our mainspace standards of comprehensiveness and project scope. (Yeah yeah, you meant this userspace page and alternative outlets...) --Eighty5cacao (talk) 22:01, 19 May 2016 (UTC) (+ 02:31, 23 May 2016 (UTC))
Speaking about "stealth" ASMR practitioners who don't use the term, Poppy (aka That Poppy) appears to have started making videos around the same time Magibon stopped. --Eighty5cacao (talk) 03:55, 31 May 2016 (UTC)
When I wrote the above comment, I was aware that Poppy had made some musical remixes for other websites prior to the YouTube activity that is currently public. Allegedly, she also posted some of said remixes to YouTube in videos that are now private or deleted, so I was technically inaccurate (without qualifying "videos" to mean only videos without musical content).
An actual WMG linking Magibon and Poppy is coming soon to the usual place. --Eighty5cacao (talk) 18:45, 15 June 2016 (UTC)
