Discontinuing this project

Do NOT delete any pages until I specifically say it is okay to do so!

I believe there is no reason at present to retain these subpages on Pin Eight, for the following reasons:

  1. Regarding new rulesets, various comments on the GitHub version of the bug tracker suggest that the developers now strictly require Git pull requests for the addition of new rulesets. For one thing, this is probably the reason no ruleset for Pin Eight has been added yet.
  2. Regarding existing rulesets, many of my suggested changes were addressed independently by other developers over time.
  3. I have most of the content backed up in the form of user rulesets (but I still need a few days to review, hence the warning at the top of this section).

The following subpages should not be deleted, with explanation given:

A user-talk page should be deleted iff the corresponding user-content page is deleted. (This means that the talk pages of the three pages listed above should be kept.)

The edit summary for each deletion action should read Author request: Obsolete; see User:Eighty5cacao/misc/HTTPS Everywhere/rulewip

It would be helpful to have a MediaWiki extension to automate the deletion process, but I looked over mediawikiwiki:Category:Page deletion extensions and couldn't find anything that directly automates deletion by prefix. Our best bet is probably to write a script that feeds instructions to Extension:DeleteBatch.

As for automating the Recent Changes Cleanup of the deletion actions, I don't see any way to do that either, short of creating a new account with the bot flag. (This discussion is not intended to change guidelines about the use of RCC elsewhere on the wiki.) All in all, sorry for any inconvenience. --Eighty5cacao (talk) 19:58, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
