By now I have
- Gamepad reading code (same as Concentration Room)
- Trivial palette and tileset loader
- Metatile engine with attributes
- Markov decoder
- Status bar rendered with sprite 0 scroll split (incidentally, sprite 0 is behind the coin)
- Locator bar to show position of 16x12 window on 512x12 map
- Bidirectional map data decoder
- Repeating clouds
- Sprites made of a rectangular grid of 8x8 sprite tiles
