A DX Town player creating a new character can play as any of several races of people. These are all humanoid, not the furries seen in AC, and some of them derive from cloning experiments.

Proportions are much closer to human proportions (7 heads tall) than the super-deformed proportions typical of Animal Crossing. To achieve this without shrinking everything into a mass of tiny pixels, the perspective cannot be the top-down nearly-2D perspective of the AC games; it has to be more like a typical PC MMORPG at times.
