A DX Town player creating a new character can play as any of several races of people. These are all humanoid, not the half-dressed funny-animal NPCs seen in Animal Crossing series, and some of them derive from cloning experiments.

Proportions are much closer to human proportions (7 heads tall) than the super-deformed proportions typical of Animal Crossing. To achieve this without shrinking everything into a mass of tiny pixels, the perspective cannot be the top-down nearly-2D perspective of the AC and Harvest Moon games; it has to be more like a typical PC MMORPG at times.
