Is there a reason why this is hosted here, especially with the degree of permanence implied by "they will not be deleted entirely"? --Tepples (talk) 22:10, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- My rationale can be roughly divided into the following two points:
- Public pastebin sites may not be reliable enough, and some may have activity limits for unregistered users, which could make my task impractical.
- The developers tend to ignore/overlook my emails when they have more urgent issues to deal with. Keep in mind that many of them have other roles within EFF and/or the Tor Project, as opposed to working exclusively on HTTPS Everywhere. This makes it difficult for me to determine by trial and error what the ideal length and format are for an email. (I'm aware that their mailing lists are publicly archived, but I'm too busy to read all the discussions.) The impression I've gotten from the developers is that ideally I should make a public Git repository somewhere if I want a large number of changes, but I've got too much going on in my life at the moment to get that started right now.
- More generally, I thought "Other topics to be determined by ... regulars" in Pin Eight:Scope gave me wide latitude to do something like this.
- If you are concerned about Recent Changes clutter, may I suggest Extension:Recent Changes Cleanup? Equivalently, I could register another account, and you could flag it as a bot (and confirmed?).
- On the other hand, I am perfectly fine having these pages deleted after all the issues are addressed, if there is a convincing reason to do so. (If we decide on that, I will revise the lead section accordingly.) Bear in mind that it will probably take the developers several months (i.e. the majority of a release cycle) to review everything here.
- I do not currently plan to create any subpages other than the ones listed. Any extenuating circumstances will be discussed with you here beforehand. Once everything here is addressed, I will probably file Trac tickets and/or look into setting up said Git repository. Feel free to explain any specific concerns you have about server resources.
- Finally, sorry this is taking me more than the "day or two" I originally promised. --Eighty5cacao (talk) 00:29, 20 May 2013 (UTC) (last edit 03:40, 20 May 2013 (UTC))
- Merge I would have consolidated groups of rulesets into pages instead of one page per ruleset. That would at least have allowed collapsing RC by date and page. RC Cleanup is already installed here though. --Tepples (talk) 01:07, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
- I'll consider merging some of the new rulesets for which I have not yet created pages, but I don't think it's worth the bother to merge any of the pages I've already created. Do you agree?
- I acknowledge that I forgot to check
Special:Version before posting. I didn't see Special:RecentChangesCleanup at the bottom of Special:SpecialPages (possibly because you have version 1.1 of the extension installed, and the most recent version is 1.2?), but I'll give it a try for the pages I've already created. --Eighty5cacao (talk) 03:51, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
- It shows up in
Special:SpecialPages under "Recent changes and logs" for me, and it should show up there for anybody with a lot of edits. Anyway, I've upgraded RC Cleanup to 1.2. Thanks for letting me know a new version was out. --Tepples (talk) 16:05, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

It looks like you're flagging all edits related to this project as bot. My original plan was that the pages related to Pin Eight don't need to be flagged (since there is little privacy concern — this is the same reason their talk pages aren't noindexed), nor do the pages in which multiple new rulesets are merged (because Enhanced RC reduces the clutter). I'm willing to go with you on the latter, but we might want to reevaluate the former. Maybe I got a little sloppy elsewhere. Comments? --Eighty5cacao (talk) 04:42, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
- I hid most of this project as bot because anonymous is currently configured not to use Enhanced RC. I could try leaving a few of the most recent edits unhidden, just as I left up a few of the most recent user merge log entries during
the big Sukey merge. --Tepples (talk) 04:49, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

Discontinuing this project
Do NOT delete any pages until I specifically say it is okay to do so!
I believe there is no reason at present to retain these subpages on Pin Eight, for the following reasons:
- Regarding new rulesets, various comments on the GitHub version of the bug tracker suggest that the developers now strictly require Git pull requests for the addition of new rulesets. For one thing, this is probably the reason no ruleset for Pin Eight has been added yet.
- Regarding existing rulesets, many of my suggested changes were addressed independently by other developers over time.
- I have most of the content backed up in the form of user rulesets (but I still need a few days to review, hence the warning at the top of this section).
The following subpages should not be deleted, with explanation given:
A user-talk page should be deleted iff the corresponding user-content page is deleted. (This means that the talk pages of the three pages listed above should be kept.)
The edit summary for each deletion action should read Author request: Obsolete; see User:Eighty5cacao/misc/HTTPS Everywhere/rulewip
It would be helpful to have a MediaWiki extension to automate the deletion process, but I looked over mediawikiwiki:Category:Page deletion extensions and couldn't find anything that directly automates deletion by prefix. Our best bet is probably to write a script that feeds instructions to Extension:DeleteBatch.
As for automating the Recent Changes Cleanup of the deletion actions, I don't see any way to do that either, short of creating a new account with the bot flag. (This discussion is not intended to change guidelines about the use of RCC elsewhere on the wiki.) All in all, sorry for any inconvenience. --Eighty5cacao (talk) 19:58, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
