Hidden files
Could you clarify what this edit summary means by "folder options"? If you were referring to Windows folder options, I don't recall any Windows version of StepMania marking user profiles as hidden. Eighty5cacao 13:51, 4 October 2010 (MST)
- If StepMania were to put profiles in the Windows XP recommended location (Application Data or All Users' Application Data) under Windows XP, that would be a hidden folder. --Tepples 16:10, 4 October 2010 (MST)
Dancingbox
How do you know that Dancingbox uses negative stops?
Chris Danford said, "Songs that used negative BPMs and positive stops on the same beat (WinDEU's Dancing Box) do not have the same behavior as before and need to be re-tested" (emphasis mine).
Or was Chris Danford referring to a different version of Dancingbox? (The only other that I could find on YouTube uses no BPM tricks.)
Did you download the simfile yourself? If so, where? Eighty5cacao 16:39, 6 October 2010 (MST)
- I don't remember saying anything about -stops. The simfile with -BPM warps and +stops is the one I was referring to. I'll go clarify the article. --Tepples 17:52, 6 October 2010 (MST)
- "Stop behavior has not been fully investigated" was in a section about negative BPMs, so I naturally assumed that the stops were negative too. (-stops in +BPMs also produce warps, though they are used rarely.) Sorry for jumping to conclusions. Your clarification looks okay. sm-ssc v1.2.4
Regarding this: I failed to notice that sm-ssc v1.2.4 (which is the topic of the video and incorporates changes from said branch) was already released. Thus, my wording was unclear and inaccurate.
I still need some time to think about a possible rewrite of the sentence.
Rant?

I would have given you another reminder about discussing on the talk page first when you're not sure of my intent, but that would have been rude especially since this isn't a "misc" page.
Sorry if I haven't made clear that I do appreciate your edits.

- You're welcome. If you're curious as to why I felt compelled to jump in, I understood your wording thus: "To be fair, the changes will be merged back." Such "To be fair" natter is deprecated on document-mode wikis, such as the mainspaces of Wikipedia and the tropes wikis, in favor of a refactor. --Tepples 05:52, 29 March 2011 (MST)
- That's sort of a moot point: the reason I posted this talk section in the first place was that, at the time of my original edit, sm-ssc 1.2.4 had already been released. I failed to notice because I hadn't read the project's Google Code page recently enough, and that makes my original wording factually inaccurate. Thus, further rewording may be called for.
- I did not intend to natter; I was just being sloppy. Eighty5cacao 09:53, 29 March 2011 (MST) (last major edit 15:12, 29 March 2011 (MST); last minor edit 00:57, 20 January 2013 (CST))
I assume sm-ssc didn't stand for "sadomasochism: safe, sane, and consensual". --Tepples (talk) 04:33, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
- The "sm" part obviously means StepMania. IIRC, "ssc" stands for "Spinal Shark Collective," which was a nickname that one of the developers used for some StepMania theming projects. The current simfile format still uses a
.ssc
file extension, but the software itself is just called StepMania 5. --Eighty5cacao (talk) 07:33, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
StepMania 5 TE
I can't give you a build number or alpha version, but I can give you a date of the initial commit: "Fri, 23 Dec 2011 02:09:43 -0600" --76.215.86.196 06:27, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you. FYI, I'm not actively maintaining this page (at least not in that level of detail). Are you Tepples who accidentally got logged out? If not, what username do you normally go by in the StepMania community? --Eighty5cacao (talk) 17:31, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
- Spoilers: I'm the guy who made SM5TE (freem). --

Maintenance (StepMania bug tracking)
The official repository has moved to GitHub, and the forum post announcing this implies that the tickets will eventually be deleted from Google Code. --Eighty5cacao (talk) 22:00, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
Updates needed
I need to update this with everything from the 5.0 era onward, including:
- Etterna, and any other forks with significant functional changes (?)
- 5.2 (Git branches named
master
and 5_1_0
; originally intended to be numbered 5.1; abandoned after negative reception to breaking changes to the Lua bindings)
- 5.1 (Git branch named
5_1-new
)
- NotITG (closed-source fork of OpenITG, no open-source release planned because OutFox will eventually support its notable features)
- 5.3 "
Project OutFox" (currently closed source, but will eventually become mainline StepMania in the same way sm-ssc became 5.0)
