Work on opposing viewpoints to the disproof of Turing completeness: This is tricky because one has to avoid making a human brain a necessary part of the computing machine, as would happen if we made use of the random human factors in app reviewing or if we required the human end-user to mentally postprocess the output of an app that just passes the "no noticeable utility" clause 2.11-12 (in what version of the guideline?) without attracting suspicion from the human reviewer.
What, if anything, does Apple do to prevent the JavaScript engine provided with the system's WebKit engine from running Russian roulette simulations found in web pages accessed by an app? (Presumably, such functionality would be noticed by a human reviewer, but see above.)
What, if anything, does Apple do to prevent Codea-like apps from being used to simulate Russian roulette?
BOINC exists for Android but not iOS; the key point is that BOINC needs to run native code while Codea is functionally a VM. (See talk, however.)
This was previously boxed: Firefox for iOS now exists, but it is WebKit-based. It is related to the "real" Firefox only by its user-interface design and Firefox Sync compatibility (needless to say, the latter does not include addons [extensions]).

- Explain the relation between cooing, babbling, motherese, and phonological development.
- Find out more about the intermediate stages of vocal tract development between infancy and full adulthood.
- Are there any more details to give about the Time Traveller's unreliability as a narrator?
- A verb "to receive" may facilitate monovalent expression of sentences that use polyvalent verbs in English: "I go to [place X]" → "I go; [place X] receives"; "I give [a gift] to Bob" → "I give; Bob receives" (but consider alternatives; see talk)
- Chapter 8 confirms the existence of a verb meaning roughly "to dance," but I'm not sure where this fits into the article
Should any of the following be mentioned in the OOU box:
- "No. 13" (Bach) in IIDX/DDR - I forgot the full title of the composition
- Multiple songs in Lemmings series
- Multiple songs in Parodius series
- What is the copyright status of "Je te veux," especially in Japan (see Binary Land)?
- What authority do performance rights organizations, such as BMI, ASCAP, and the Société des auteurs, compositeurs et éditeurs de musique, have over copyright? (For example, see the Wikipedia article mentioned in the item above.)

Project
- Do we need to write an official policy on dealing with spam? Such a policy should, at a minimum, give guidance on user warnings, block settings, and procedures for handling non-English comments. (Regarding the last of these, when is it necessary to use Google Translate, and when is it acceptable simply to assume bad faith?)
- User:Eighty5cacao/Main Page redesign ideas
- Wikipedia and Uncyclopedia have custom CSS such that, for example,
[[Example article#cite note-0]]
will display the page Example article
with the text of the first footnote highlighted in a light blue color. We do not. Should we change this? (Doing so would make custom anchor tricks like this less useful to readers, though - the highlight color would not show IIRC)
Manual of Style
- See also: User:Eighty5cacao/Manual of Style (songs that sound alike)
Naming convention note: For its Manual of Style, the English Wikipedia currently prefers subpages to parenthesized disambiguators.
- Additions to Pin Eight:Manual of Style/Links:
- YouTube linking:
- TODO: See allthetropes:Ear Worm from "Note: When posting links to YouTube here..." on down. (In summary: Exclude the
feature
parameter, and avoid using playlists unless absolutely necessary.)
- When linking to a user's channel page, it is preferable to use
https://www.youtube.com/user/USERNAME/videos
rather than simply https://www.youtube.com/user/USERNAME
, so as to avoid the possible annoyance of an auto-playing video embedded in the channel main page.
- The Manual of Style (or a "glossary" section thereof) should explain something about the exclamation-mark notation used to describe character interpretations in fan fiction.
- The maintainer of the aforementioned page believes the ! notation to be inspired by a line of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures, but allthetropes:Characterization Tags mentions a possible connection with UUCP bang paths. Most likely, TMNT inspired the use to describe character traits while UUCP inspired the use for the setting in which a character is placed. The MOS should mention something about these etymologies.
- RFC 2119 compliance guidelines (compare User:Eighty5cacao#rfc2119)

Why are words like MUST and SHOULD in all caps? We're not shouting; see RFC 2119.

in Google or another search engine. Or maybe use the built-in search function provided by the MediaWiki software
- Where to mention this: [On the other hand,] compare Kuro5hin, which offers premium subscriptions but currently allows HTTPS viewing by anyone regardless of login/registration status.
- This was inspired by the entry on mystery-meat navigation: Complaining that Mxyplyzyk uses HTTPS unnecessarily? Really? WTF? I'm not sure where this belongs, and I'm at a loss for words, which is why this is a TODO. (Theoretically, the overhead of TLS might be a concern on 3G or satellite plans with bandwidth caps. However, most of the overhead is in the initiation and termination of connections, and many mobile devices lack Flash anyway.) (IIRC, Mxy... no longer uses Flash, nor HTTPS by default. It might have originally been using Flash to make itself look more secure than it really was.)

User
- This section includes articles that need userspace drafting.
- Maybe start a page for "Fictional character resemblances," along the lines of Songs that sound alike but in the topic of Switched at Birth. Some discussion is at allthetropes:Expy. (Should images be used at all? If so, under what conditions? If not, to what extent does this topic overlap with Costume blazons? See talk) The proposed title might not be so great: Switched at Birth is not all about appearance; it also considers occupation and personality. We should too
- Re YTMND is cheaper: Discuss Scratch as a candidate for a "poor man's Flash."
- User:Eighty5cacao/misc/Top misconceptions of an Aspie mind – moved to User:Eighty5cacao/misc/Aspie notes and superseded by User:Eighty5cacao/misc/Aspie notes/version 2
- Maybe in Songs that sound alike (investigation needed): "Dreamscape" by 009 Sound System and "Breath Machine" by Momentary Sound Action – are 009 Sound System and Momentary Sound Action the same artist under different names? (009 Sound System is Alexander Perls only.)
- User:Eighty5cacao/Musical self-plagiarism (video games)
User:Eighty5cacao/Eloi physiology and User:Eighty5cacao/misc/Eloi physiology (fanon)
- Regarding the above: The Time Traveller observes some Eloi "bathing" in a river (Ch. 5, 10). What exactly does this mean - is there any actual swimming, or is everyone sitting still?
- http://blog.hardcoregaming101.net/2011/03/parasite-eve-tango-and-cash.html (TODO: explain more later once I've actually listened to the songs)
- stsa-vg-IN Smashing Drive
- Video game graphics design tradeoffs: Pocky & Rocky 2 and El Viento use solid-colored tiles for some explosions. The SNES version of Sunset Riders uses "superpixels" of 8x4 or 4x8 pixels for some explosions. Also mention the possibility of displaying kanji or hanzi with superpixels in situations where CHR memory and/or CPU time are limited but screen space is no object.
- Consider making a "discussions to revisit" page, as Tepples has
- User:Eighty5cacao/misc/HTTPS Everywhere subpages:
- To go on some page related to Eloi physiology (or possibly another fictional race): Christie Wilcox. "Expensive Organs: Guppies Reveal The Cost Of Big Brains. Scientific American, 2013-01-03. Accessed 2013-01-03. (also Slashdot) (these are about guppies, but I've also heard of an example in some species of bat. This may not scale up to present-day humans - I don't necessarily mean scale in terms of size; there may be other peculiarities to hominid evolution)
- User:Eighty5cacao/misc/Wi-Fi vs. Ethernet - a mini-rant of sorts inspired by a thread from the NESdev "General Stuff" forum; note that I have some bias as usual...
- Stop citing IMDb forums on TTM matters, and review all existing links - it looks like they periodically purge old forum threads and/or restrict threads older than a certain age to IMDb Pro members. (The 404 error message doesn't specifically mention the latter, though.)
Update: Yes, I'm aware the IMDb forums are shutting down. No, I don't want help fixing or removing the links (yet).
- User:Tepples/Allism test: Find sources concerning whether or not the instructions for existing notable subsets of the test explicitly forbid a "rational" response.
- Once we have a page for general puns and/or coincidences, mention something about Konami's VRC chips vs. a similarly-named line of laser-detection cards by Thorlabs. (Just as with Konami, Thorlabs VRC5 is the odd one out.) Or does this belong on All The Tropes somewhere?
User:Eighty5cacao/misc/copyrobeast
Not sure whether it belongs here specifically, but mention the possibility that YouTube may shut down entirely[1][2] (cracked.com) under continuing legal pressure (bbc.co.uk). On the other hand, isn't YouTube "too big to fail" in some sense?
User:Eighty5cacao/TODO (this page itself)
Look over the "Unknown" section and move anything that isn't a proper TODO to a separate page (User:Eighty5cacao/misc/Random thoughts?)
Note to self: Especially in edit summaries, stop using "wp" as an abbreviation for Wikipedia. DuckDuckGo uses it to mean WordPress.
("en.wp" is a little better but should ultimately be deprecated too.)

Think about how useful Hackpad might be as an interim alternative outlet for my WMGs and other questionable material. I'm a little worried about the site's use (requirement?) of real names though. Other similar sites?

Regarding YouTube Content ID and the use of Vocaloid in cover songs: What does this copyright guideline imply for this video? I know the Content ID robot is supposed to tolerate pitch and tempo shifts, but how did it manage not to get tripped up by the use of Hatsune Miku? Was a similarity found in the backing track? Or was it a manual tagging? (cf. Original "Heaven Is a Place on Earth") Further examples: Compare ID'd and not ID'd - the former has some of Lady Gaga's original voice present
In other words: Vocaloid may currently be useful for deceiving the copyrobot. I have in mind not straight covers, for which the fair-use argument is weak, but rather mashups à la STSA demos. Consider for example Robo Roll'd feat. Hatsune Miku. (This is all purely hypothetical, as I do not own the Vocaloid software nor have any foreseeable plans to do so.) It would also be necessary to rearrange the backing tracks using non-infringing samples. The purpose is to prevent the video from being flagged before a human has a chance to review the fair-use statement in the description. However, as both automatic and manual tagging improve ...

Update: ...and as I predicted, manual reporting turned out to be a problem (knowyourmeme.com)

Link rot
Links to gitweb.torproject.org need checking due to site software changes; at least search URLs are definitely broken as-is.
However, there appears to be an "official" copy of the repository on GitHub - this is probably more searchable
Songs that sound alike not otherwise classified
- This section is for MoS or other policy issues that need extended consideration. For actual drafts of MoS items, see above. For song entries that are dubious, see User:Eighty5cacao/misc/Songs that sound alike (investigation needed).
- MoS issue, also discussed on the investigation page: How do we define "independent musician"? What do we do about artists who publish most of their material noncommercially? (Define "most.")
- MoS issue: Is it okay for us to have entries that are already discussed in the external links?
- Specific example for both of the above: Chrissy - My Slushy vs. Ke$ha - Tik Tok (from That Song Sounds Like; this entry mentions a lawsuit; note that there is a slight mistake in the entry: The game Audition Online is actually of Korean origin. BTW, producer Dr. Luke is mentioned in other entries on the site, though he's obviously not relevant to this one...)
Video gaming not otherwise classified
- Something about colorblind accessibility in video games, and how FantaVision is a poor example; for that matter, blind accessibility
- Mention the Famicom game Garfield: A Week of Garfield as an example of mystery-meat navigation
