You're correct. And as long as the dominant buisness model is to have cellphone contacts subsidize the device costs, I don't see it changing. I believe apple views the touch as a gateway device that will sell them more iPhones. The ipad is currently priced more like that's what they think you should spend on it.
The thing is that I don't desire cheep non-cell devices near as much as I would like cheep wireless access plans. Of course that isn't the way things are going. They are looking for more ways to charge us. --173.62.58.58 03:53, 21 August 2010
Very succinct rant. I too have been wondering about this for some time. --142.157.105.80, 28 August 2010
We are getting much closer: https://www.engadget.com/2010/08/31/archos-unleashes-five-five-new-android-froyo-tablets-we-go-h/ I think these devices may fulfil many of the criteria, with the exception of access to the Google Apps Marketplace. --76.68.132.149, 3 September 2010 (https fix: Eighty5cacao (talk) 21:20, 12 June 2016 (UTC))
You say people recommended the Samsung i7500 phone. Perhaps the Samsung i5700 is a better match. It costs $220 (unlocked), runs Android 2.1, has a functioning touch screen, and a microSD slot. So just turn off the cellular modem and you've got the "android pod touch" you wanted. I actually have this phone, but outside of USA where I use prepaid service ($6 per month + $3 per 100MB data).
Just thought I'd drop in and say that the Galaxy S (that is, the epic) is not actually $600-- was just at a sprint store the other day, and after all the rebates etc (incl 2 yr contract :\ ) its $250. Pretty decent for a device that is unbelievably snappy, comes with a keyboard, and 4G. If you dont want either 4g or the keyboard, I think other carriers have a (possibly cheaper) version without those.

I own an iPod touch, and one of my parents owns an iPad without 3G capability. Both were received as gifts. I have never been in a position to purchase an Android device.

To what extent does this article's title qualify as a neologism? Most of the search results for the title in quotes appear to be Slashdot comments, as I previously mentioned at User talk:Eighty5cacao/misc/copyrobeast#Template for neologisms. --Eighty5cacao (talk) 04:21, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
This article should probably be tagged as historical, but I'm not sure what our guidelines and procedures are for that. --Eighty5cacao (talk) 04:46, 3 January 2020 (UTC)
