This shows screenshots of milestones in developing the President video game engine for NES:

August 2009

By now I have

  • Gamepad reading code (same as Concentration Room)
  • Trivial palette and tileset loader
  • Metatile engine with attributes
  • Markov decoder
  • Status bar rendered with sprite 0 scroll split (incidentally, sprite 0 is behind the coin)
  • Locator bar to show position of 16x12 window on 512x12 map
  • Bidirectional map data decoder
  • Repeating clouds
  • Sprites made of a rectangular grid of 8x8 sprite tiles
